Important Clauses to Note About Applying For The Qualifying Exam (QE)

1. Your application will not be processed until all fees are paid in full.
2. There shall be no refund in the event of non-attendance.
3. For Physiotherapy QE, there is a cap of 21 candidates per sitting. In the event that the upcoming QE is oversubscribed, SIT will push your application to the next QE ( an email will be sent to you to inform you that your application has been pushed to the next run).
4. Priority will be given to candidates whose In-Principle-Approval’s validity is expiring soon.
5. The Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy QE are conducted 4 times a year in January, April, July and October.  The examinations are usually conducted over 2 days (usually a Thursday and Friday). Format of the Singapore Physiotherapy Qualifying Exams



The Singapore Physiotherapy QE  comprises a 2-hour written paper and 1-hour practical exam.

The Written paper consists of: 
i) 10 Multiple Choice Questions on Paediatrics and Electrophysical Agents (EPA)
(10 marks)

ii) Short Answer Questions (90 marks)
Comprising compulsory questions on cardiopulmonary, neurology and musculoskeletal physiotherapy.
Basic anatomy, physiology and behavioural science
questions may be asked in the applied manner in the short answer questions.

Short answer questions are mainly case studies with questions on clinical diagnosis, management and justification of management with appropriate clinical reasoning.

iii) Elective Questions (20 marks)
You will be given a choice to answer one of three case studies related to paediatric physiotherapy, women's health and sports physiotherapy.


The Practical examination (90 marks) 

Includes 3 scenarios of 20 minutes each in the following areas:
Neurology, Musculoskeletal, Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy.

Scenarios will be similar to clinical cases.
You will be asked to demonstrate appropriate assessment, related management techniques and interventions on a patient model.

You will elaborate on the goals of management on each clinical case.

Examiners will require you to provide evidence-based justification for choice of management techniques and interventions used.

Applying for the Singapore Physiotherapy QE 2018/2019

1. Apply for registration with the Allied Health Professionals Council (AHPC) of Singapore.
2. After the initial review, you will be informed of your eligibility to sit for the Qualifying Exams (QE).
3. You will then apply to the relevant examination provider in Singapore (using your confirmation letter from the AHPC).
4. The completed QE application form together with the relevant fees and a certified true copy of the confirmation letter from the Council must be submitted by your employer directly to the examination provider by the closing date for the relevant QE.
5. The examination provider will give you information on the venue, date, time and other instructions on the QE.
6. After the exams submit a copy of your results to the council.The Council will then continue with the review of their applications for registration.

From January 2015, the Qualifying Exam (QE) fee per candidate is SGD642 (including GST).

The QE examination consists of two parts: a written examination and an oral examination.

Results are released 4 to 6 weeks after the QE. 

For Allied Health Professionals who are on Restricted Registration and are keen to take the QE:

They should apply directly to the relevant examination provider in Singapore for the QE which they intend to sit for.

1. Possess a basic/primary professional qualification e.g. BSc (Physiotherapy)
2. Have an offer of employment as a physiotherapist in Singapore
3. Be of good standing/reputation/character
4. Have passed the national examination (if any) in the Country where you graduated from.

Other factors considered by the AHPC (Allied Health Professionals Council) of Singapore are:


  • Post-graduate qualifications
  • Work experience and history (e.g. whether the applicant has been in active clinical practice, professional practice experience)
  • Registration with other licensing authorities
  • Evidence of proficiency in English Language
  • Physical and Mental Health status
  • Evidence of passing the Qualifying Examination (QE)
